In Vinodol, there is a story recorded according to oral tradition. It is a story about a custom that dates back to antiquity, in the past centuries of the rule of the Croatian noble family Frankopan.
According to that story, at the end of the harvest, in the vineyard, the RUŽICA (rose) was chosen among the pickers, the girl who was the most beautiful and the most hard-working.
They would crown her with a vine and take her to the city at the head of the procession to the sounds of ancient folk instruments. The last time, chroniclers say, this event took place in the 19th century, namely in 1880.
Based on this story, today’s Ružica Vinodola was reconstructed.
Ružica Vinodola is a contemporary festival inspired by the past of the Vinodol Valley.
Ružica Vinodola proved to be an extremely well-hit project that immediately found its audience, because it is a new, interesting tourist product. It is interesting above all that we present a part of our rich tradition and folklore to tourists, but also to the domestic population.
The tourist boards of the Vinodol municipality and the City of Novi Vinodolski are the organizers of this event.
